For instance, Americans elect the president indirectly through an Electoral College; however, the members of American congress are directly elected by people. Throughout the United States history debate has been tabled on lowering the voting age without reaching to a consensus. Proponents to this debate argue that fair vote ropes suffrage to 17 and 16 years old in the municipal elections (Hajnal, 2009). As a result, the voters turnover increases enabling Americans to vote for the first time after turning 16. On the other hand, opponents arguments are based on scientific research that claims that at the age of 16 or 17 human brains is not well developed. Th e paper will debate on whether the Americans voting age should be lowered from eighteen to sixteen. In the United States voting age should be loweres due to the following reasons. Restricting voting to people of 18 years and above may lock out many youths. Hence, denying them a chance to exercise their constitutional rights (Hayduk, 2012). In the US people at this age have covered much of the US politics because they start beingh taught in grade three at every institutions of learning. As they advance to grade five, students are fully aware of the US electoral process hence they can accord the process ethics.These youths at this age they frequently have acquired all the required theory in class and there is need to give them chance to vote and can be able to relate what is taught in class and the real life situation. Additionally, some decision made by the US Congress has impacts not only to those above 20 years but also those below hence they should be given chance to elect leaders of their choice (Berman, 2015).The second reason as to why voting age should be lowered is based on scientific believe. In particular, scientist believes that at the age of thirteen people can develop valid opinions, hence the age of fifteen they can make their decisions. For instance, at the age of seventeen one can make his or her marital, social, and economic decisions. Lastly, voting age should be lowered because ones age does not determine the extent at which one is irresponsible. For instance, there are adults who are much irrespessible compared to some youths (Berman, 2015),In the United States, voting age should not be lowered due to the following reasons. An American who is under 18 years of age is deemed as a child. Children cannot make appropriate choices because they do not uphold the significance of making constructive choices. At times, they make random choices which in turn impact the whole state. Secondly, according to scientific researches carried out in ma ny countries, voting age should not be lowered because a person of 20 years and below does not possess a fully developed brain.
